Fremont street is a must see for a Vegas trip, and I found a brewery on it! There are a couple of breweries on the long strip but this was the first! For a Vegas location it has that typical brewery feel. Their story is one mixed with tradition and Vegas spice. As described more here, the five founders of Banger Brewing discuss how, living in a place like Vegas, most people move away and those that stay don’t live the traditional, home to college to new home, life. The group met working in the Bellagio. Eventually they consulted a home brewing friend, Michael “Banger” Beamer, for which the place is named. The place combines a love for craft beer and a love for Vegas, as a home, not a weekend destination. There was a long bar on the right and seating all around it. The place was dimly lit. Once inside, it felt like a different world from the lights, sounds and materialism. People watching on Fremont would probably have been a blast, but I was happy for a quieter escape for a bit. I ordered a flight of four: the Gary D’Weet (a Hefeweizen), the Morning Joe (a Coffee Kolsch), the DTB (a Brown Ale) and the Hop Bang Boom (an Imperial IPA). The Gary D’weet was delicious! Not too light, perfectly wheaty, evenly sweet and refreshing. I could have gone for a whole pint. The nitro was fascinating. It was the second time I had tried a beer with coffee notes in something other than a porter or stout (first time being at Santa Monica Brew Works). The Kolsch had a white chocolatey smell and this light coffee flavor. It was creamy and delicious, a beer I’d seek out in the future. The IPA was super hoppy upfront and a hint of citra fruitiness. I liked it. The type of beer I’d order for a night out where I planned to drink a couple. Lastly the brown ale was chocolately, super dark and rich. The chocolate was more in flavor and didn’t lend too much sweetness, which I preferred. I liked all the ones I tried! I’d love to go back and try their chocolate victory. A wheat stout, it mixes chocolate, honey and a biscuit flavor with the usual stout coffee notes. I don’t believe I’ve ever tried something like this and would love to do so. Overall, the space was great, the beer delicious, the bartender nice. They have $5 pint happy hour every day from 1-3 and 9-11 and Bingo on the 1st Wednesday of every month for a chance to win free beer and your own keg party!
