Antico Noe Located on Volta di S. Piero, the alley next to Lions Fountain, this tiny panini shop is my all time favorite. I am shocked it took me until my 3rd semester in Italy to discover it! I ordered exactly what a friend of mine recommended: roast beef, roasted onions, brie cheese and rose sauce. It was like nothing else! Take it to go or eat it at the counter with a glass of house wine. The sweet guy behind the counter gave me a small glass, on the house, for my first time there! Make sure to get a points card! Buy 10 sandwiches and the next one is free! Pinos Pinos is generally the #1 rated spot, among travel promoters and study abroad students. The list of sandwiches is extensive. Each panini is €4.50 and they are bigger than the ones you will find elsewhere! My personal favorite is Brasco (con pesto!). You'll find this spot, officially called Salumeria Verdi, on Via Verdi in Santa Croce. It is perfectly located with a large interior and outdoor seating! Pinos has wifi too! This panini place has a couple of hidden perks. The first, is that you should switch it up once and a while and try the pasta, very underrated! I also recommend ordering some house wine with your sandwich. Pino's has a great wine selection, since Pino, the owner, is actually quite the wine connoisseur! He runs wine tastings a street over! If that isn't enough to draw you in, Pino, is one of the sweetest men in Florence! He runs the sandwich place with his wife and daughter, both super friendly! Pane Toscana Located on the same street as Lions Fountain, you can get a panini for as little as €3.5.This place is great for it's delicious combinations and for the points card! I have had so many different sandwiches here I don't even know which one to recommend! My most recent one has meat, cheese, onions, balsamic and honey on it. SandwiChic Located at the corner of Via Guelfa and Via San Gallo, this tiny place can be missed if you don't know it is there! I passed right by it once when I was looking for it. The name isn't written largely, so look out instead for the big sign on top that says MERCENERIA. There is a unique aspect to it: they collect buttons not tips! The food is incredible, the price inexpensive (€3.50 is the cheapest) and they have a wide range of homemade local sauces. I've tried three sandwiches here and have loved each one! My favorite is the gorgonzola, salame and pomodoro but I have tried sandwiches with truffle sauce and spinach spread that have blown me away as well. Nobile A super tiny shop nudged in the corner behind the Medici Chapel, Nobile, was my favorite spots as a student. While the interior is minuscule, there is a nice patio area, in the piazza, with tables and chairs. My favorite sandwich had cheese, meat and artichoke spread. Unfortunately, the artichoke spread is seasonal. Oil Shoppe On Via Sant'Egidio, this small sandwich shop has amazing sandwiches, iced coffee, salads and smoothies. Picture above, I got the zucchini, brie, balsamic and turkey sandwich. They are also known for their meatball subs! Gusta Panino Anything in Santo Spirito is pretty much guaranteed to fulfill your wishes. Right down the road from Gusta Pizza, this panini shop has tasty combinations, make your own options, a good price range (€4-6), and table service! Order your panino and enjoy it outside in direct view of the elegant Santo Spirito Church. On my trip I ordered the brie, turkey and truffle sandwich. Another perk? They have a bunch of bread options! I ordered my sandwich on whole wheat. It is one of the few panini shops I have been to with whole wheat! All'Antico Vinaio This is the #1 rated spot in Florence for sandwiches. For this reason, it took me over a year of having lived here to actually try one of their sandwiches, because there is always a long line! I strategically chose to go at 3 p.m. There was still a line, or should I say "lines" since you can order in more than one spot, on either side of dei Neri. Once at the front, I chose the Favolosa. Originally it comes with salami, creamy pecorino cheese, cream of artichoke and spicy grilled eggplant. I'm a big baby and can't handle spice, so I asked for tomatoes. The sandwich was incredible, only €5, and the cheese was different from anything else I have tried; creamy and filling. However, this place may need a couple more visits. I wasn't blown away, as I had expected I would be from the hype. I felt my sandwich needed something else to give it a boost. I chose to pair it with balsamic glaze when I got back home. Panini Toscani Another spot with an unfortunate long line is Panini Toscani. It doesn't help that it is so centrally located; right on the Duomo! This is a downside in the summer, but a perk for the off season! For €6 I received a tasty panini with local and fresh ingredients. Unlike most of the others, they do not have pre-made sandwiches for you to chose from. Instead, you do a taste test before ordering! So not only do you end up with a mouthwatering sandwich, you also get the fun of trying the meats and cheeses they have to offer! I nibbled on four cheese samples and three meat samples before making my selection. While they do not give you samples of the bread selection, choosing your bread is the next step! I chose the soft whole wheat! You finish your creation with additions such as peppers, chilli, sundried tomatoes, eggplant and whatever else is local and in season! While we did not have time for the finale, they generally take a look at your final product and make a suggestion for a regional wine to pair with it. I ended up with a beautiful panino of cheese, meat, zucchini, sundried tomatoes and arugula. Amorini Located on Via dei Servi, right off of Piazza Duomo, is this tucked away panini shop. It's my friend's absolute favorite spot! They have a bunch of sandwiches on their menu ranging in price from €3 to €6. The only €6 panino, the "Amorino" is made with "Arista Orange" a special meat, jacking up the price. Its absolutely delicious with sheep milk cheese, arucola and tomato. I ordered it with pesto as well. It was amazing, especially because of the light hint of orange, but I preferred the first sandwich I tried- their "Masaccio," made with salami and artichoke. Il Bufalo Trippone
This sandwich and wine shop couldn't be more Italian. Nudged in a tiny space on Via dell'Anguillara, its quintessential characteristics draw you in. They offer a wide selection of sandwiches with unique cheese options! I ordered their "drunk panino" made with truffle sauce, pork and wine cheese! The wine cheese was what got me. They also have a truffle cheese! My panino came to €4.50 and they take card!
