1. The Diner These burgers are my favorite in Italy. The Diner is owned by the same people as the famous Acqua al Due, and they use meat from the restaurant to make the burgers! The quality is high, the options many, and the outcome; delicious. They are huge, filling, and keep you coming back time and again. My favorite is their Ari's burger: gorgonzola and caramelized onion. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner, this should be your number one choice when you're craving an American burger. And from personal experience, it's the best place to be a regular at. 2. Off the Hook Along with a wide selection of craft beer (including Flying Dog from the U.S.!!) they have 13 burgers to choose from! The price ranges from €7-12 but the average price is less than €10. I tried the Santo Spirito Burger made with brie, caramelized onions from Tropea, lettuce, pistachio grains and lemon yogurt sauce. It's rare that I don't have to add ketchup to a burger but this one was perfect just the way it was. Its also rare I finish a burger (and they are big!) but I devoured it. I'll definitely be back to try their Sant' Ambrogio Burger made with reduction of Chianti wine! 3. Cloud 59 This place was highly recommended by a student friend of mine from the fall 2017 semester. I'm shocked it took me three semester to make it here! I ordered their signature Cloud 59 burger with house sauce that the owner described as similar to the sauce on a big mac. It was the perfect size, for me, so maybe a little small for others. One of the things I liked was how easy it was to eat. It wasn't messy and falling apart like most juicy burgers. 4. Beer House Club As one may anticipate from the name, this place has an excellent selection of craft beers, as well as mouthwatering burgers. I can personally thank them for making my day a lot better with what I dub their hangover burger, and what they call their Beer House Burger. Made with onion rings, tomato, brie cheese, lettuce, BBQ sauce and an egg, it is a bizarre yet perfect combination. It is huge but delicious and you'll finish every bite. Beer House has five burgers total to choose from, only downside is they are a bit more pricey than the other spots, ranging from €11-12. 5. Red Garter Red Garter is the optimal sports bar with everything from wings to nachos to a wide selection of burgers. They have nine different burgers, three gourmet burgers, alternative burgers (chicken, vegetarian etc.) and the famous burger tower. It is made of 1 Kg of meat and considered a challenge to eat there is a minimum 2 person requirement. While I didn't try this monster myself, two of my coworkers did! Grab a partner and try to finish this baby in one sitting! Prices are a little higher here too. 6. Lions Fountain The Diner is my daily spot and Lion's is my nightly. Lion's Fountain has been home to me since my first week working in Florence back in August 2017. Like Red Garter, you'll find a large selection of bar food. While Lion's doesn't have as many burgers to choose from, they have three regular burgers to choose from, a chicken burger, a veggie burger and sliders. A burger is €10 and sliders are €7. What makes it even better is your chance to get a burger for free! Lion's Fountain has a points card! And since it is easily the best bar in Florence, you'll fill that card out faster than you think. Buy 15 drinks and get a free burger! 7. Manzo
Here you'll get a more Italian take on a burger. This place is kind of a classier sit down spot for locals. The burger selection is not the type you see on most American centered menus. Their cheese of choice? Pecorino. Did I even see ketchup there? No. I ordered their burger with spinach, pecorino, mushrooms and a lemon mayonaise sauce. Manzo uses organic meat too! There is a €2 cover charge here, something none of the other spots have, and I found the bun a little dry and crumbly but other than that it is worth a try!
