People always say experience is worth more than money but at some point money physically runs out. It can seem depressing when your friends are going to different countries every weekend during their semester abroaad but there are some upsides to something that seems like it has none. REALLY GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CITY (Some of the cool sites I came across when I took an afternoon to just WALK and discover) When I first got to Florence I had plans to leave every weekend. Busy with classes or my internship I started to feel I was getting no time to see what Florence had to offer. If I spent 200 every weekend for a trip I wouldn’t have the money to eat out and try the best Firenze had to offer. I had a list of the best gelato places, restaurants, aperitivo places and coolest sites. Taking a step back from the expensive weekend trips I had more money for the little things here and there. It also gave me more time to find my favorite places, sit out, relax and feel like a local. I had time to go on walks, explore and really get the taste of Florence I wanted DAY TRIPS TO LESS TOURISTY PLACES (Budget Trip to Vicenza! Not in Tuscany, but not a short train ride away and less touristy)
Interlaken, Budapest, Barcelona. They were all so high on my list. When I couldn’t do them all I started researching what was close by and found so many cute towns in Tuscany. It also gives the opportunity to to return to cities I have already been to see what I couldn’t fit in in a day. LESS EXHAUSTION, MORE ROUTINE Few people desire routine when they go abroad. That kind of defeats the purpose of this unique adventurous experience. However, I can’t go four months without working out. When traveling every weekend and busy all week long with activities, night events and work/class it is really hard to find the time. Without working out, eating well and getting proper sleep you can end up sick and worn out. This in turn makes the trips you do have planned exhausting. PLANNING TO COME BACK When I realized I couldn’t do it all during my internship in Italy I knew I had to come back! "YOSO" (you only student abroad once) Why do people use this? You can make it twice! Or you can just come back and travel! The second I realized there weren’t enough weekends and funds to make it everywhere I made my next goal: to save up for my next trip to continue checking off that bucket list.
