As you may know, Italy has a strict coffee culture. Italians drink cappuccinos in the morning and espresso in the evening. But from the country that created Starbucks, we have our own coffee addiction and rituals. It can be frustrating to live in Italy where you feel like you’re never full waking up. Iced coffee isn’t a usually a thing (click HERE for where to get an iced coffee), though many businesses have added this to the menu in an attempt to reach the tourist and study abroad population. In addition to our iced drinks and our flavored coffee (where are the pumpkin spice lattes?), many Americans love a large cup of coffee, because, we like to sip on it all day. Attempting the cultural norm I ordered cappuccini the other day. I had five of them, before one, I felt I had been given enough caffeine to enter the world, and two, because I was working and felt I continuously needed something to sip on. Part of the wake up power of coffee is simply the ritual of the continuous sips. It’s the placebo effect in the sips. But many of us, want more than one cup. Living in Italy one of the things I miss the most is the free refill. At any diner in the U.S. you order one coffee and a server comes back and refills it for you, consistently. You can get one refill, two refills, three refills. Le Vespe may have a good black coffee but I still spend so much money asking for another. They offer a discounted refill price; but that still adds up—1.50 +1.50 +1.50. Enter Rooster Café….
You may have walked by it several times. Located 2 minutes from the Duomo and 2 minutes from Lions Fountain, you can easily miss it if you don’t know where it is. It’s not even on the maps! It is similar to Le Vespe; cozy and cute with breakfast food, smoothies, juices and health food. But the most special aspect of this delicious café is their free refills. Here, you can satisfy your coffee need in a mug that reminds you of home. They will keep refilling it, free of cost. It is your dream come true in Florence. Head to the Rooster Café for refills galore and a taste of home!
